Todays Question: I looked at your website and I love your photos but are you ever worried that someone is going to steal your photos since you don't watermark them?
When it comes to watermarking your photos, I understand the idea behind it. If you put your name on it, it cant be stolen, and if it is then people will know you took the photo and come back to hire you! Ive been there. When I started out I watermarked my photos. It was more about brand recognition than being worried my photos would be stolen but a watermark is a watermark. I stoped putting watermarks on my photos originally out of pure laziness. And never went back. Im just one local photographer in a sea of a 100 million. Im not saying it cant happen to me but there are far better photographers than I and if someone wanted to do themself a disservice and pass off my photos as their own work then good luck. If I was a large target or my business model revolved around prints then yeah watermarking might be a priority but I shoot photos for couples. The only people who would want to steal the photos are the couple, who have the photo, and sleeze bag photographers who would rather spend time looking for work to steal rather than just creating their own work.
